Tabloids Are The Champions

Another One Bites The Dust! Tabloids 2017 will go down as one of the best of all time. Champions Kowhai House took the crown this year, a huge congratulations to them. Our Year 10 group were an honor to host down on the field and the level of participation was very high. The pictures below really show off the colour, craziness, and costumes of the day. I'll keep my post short and let the pictures tell the story! Thanks for another awesome Newlands College event to all who helped make the day an outstanding success.

Welcome Back 2017

Good Morning,

It has been a long time between posts but its is great to be back sharing what is happening with this awesome year group. There has been a lot of admin and orientation happening over the last few weeks but students are now set with full timetables (hopefully no more subject changes!), a fresh new set of teachers, and many new classrooms.

In Year 10 students do Mathematics, Science, English, Social Studies four lessons per week. P.E and Health three lessons per week. Option subjects run for half year courses (apart from languages which are full year) and they are on three lessons per week. This means students have less subjects to organise in Year 10 with the aim to get some more in-depth learning occurring.

We also have a number of students in our Year group who will begin some NCEA Level 1 standards this year. These include students in Mathematics, English, Chinese, Pasifika Studies, French, and Science. All the best for your head start on NCEA Level 1.

Last year we chose the theme of sports & participation to focus on as a Year group and the inter form-class sports events (won by 9CN) was a huge success. Part of this theme was my own personal challenge to run the Cigna Round The Bays Half Marathon. This is happening on Sunday the 19th Feb (2 days away!) around the Wellington waterfront. I am aware of a few students and parents who are participating and would like to extend the invitation to meet at 10:30am near the finish line to take some photos and celebrate our success.

Below is a few more key dates and opportunities coming up that I thought a reminder would not go a miss.

  • Tabloid Sports is scheduled for 24th February (time to sort our costumes!)
  • Sports Registration is due with payment by the 24th February (for all sports to be played this year)
  • Student Leadership positions such as Form-Reps and House-Reps are to be allocated over the next few weeks in Form-Time
  • First Dean's assembly in week 6 we will select a theme for our year group this year.
I'll be updating this blog with photos and information over the next year, but like always please use the main school website for all official information.

Many thanks, and here's to a great year ahead.
